I fell in love with surprise cakes long time ago but I haven’t made one for a long time. I am simply too involved in my cupcakes to make a surprise cake I guess. Not any more. Check this pink love heart chocolate surprise cake and what a scrumptious cake it is. This is THE Cake for Valentine’s Day or any romantic occasions. It takes a bit of effort to make but totally worth the time. The result: a very happy ending to your date night for sure.

There are many versions of surprise cakes these days. You can make an all white cake with red love heart, but I love chocolate so a chocolate cake hidden with pink cherry love heart it is for me and dear hubby.

Our anniversary is coming up soon, and don’t tell him, I am so into making this surprise cake this year to celebrate. A different deviation from my everyday cupcakes, that’ll certainly get his attention. Fingers crossed. Wish me luck. Check out the recipes and instructions below and maybe one day, you might need it for a special occasion. Who knows?

Hidden love heart chocolate suprise cake recipe

Ingredients:

  • Vanilla or Butter Pound Cake recipe or mix (for 1 loaf of cake)
  • Chocolate Pound Cake recipe or mix (for 1 loaf of cake)
  • 1/6 teaspoon Pink Food Coloring (use Wilton Rose or similar colourings)
  • ½ teaspoon – 3/4 tablespoon Natural Cherry Extract

Special equipment:

  • Love Heart shaped Cookie Cutter (3 ½ inches wide 3 inches tall)
  • Loaf pan

Preheat oven per the instruction on the cake mix package.

  • For the vanilla pound cake, add 1/8 teaspoon Wilton Rose coloring to the mix. Then add cherry flavours. Mix well and bake per instruction on the package.
  • Remove from oven. Allow to cool completely.
  • Reheat oven per instruction for the chocolate pound cake recipe or mix.
  • Place cherry pound cake on a cutting board. Cut the cake into slices as thick as the cookie cutter.
  • Then proceed and use the cookie cutter to cut one love heart out of each slice. Set aside.
  • Butter a loaf pan and place cherry cake hearts in the middle of the pan; point down, back-to-back and touch each other.
  • Prepare the chocolate pound cake recipe or mix according to the directions.
  • Fill the chocolate mixture into the loaf pan where the cherry cake hearts are sitting. Fill in the batter on both sides, in between the hearts (this way each heart will have some chocolate cake between them and cover the top of the hearts as well. This step can be a bit messy so get someone to help if you can.

Bake the chocolate cake per instruction for your recipe or cake mix package.

Remove the cake from oven and allow to cool on a cooling rack.

Top up with your favorite whip cream or buttercream, and add chocolate love heart as a special treat, plus bright red cherries on top. (optional)

What a fest for Valentine, Mother’s Day or any other romantic occasions!

Finally, it’s time to slice up and you will give your loved one a total surprise. It’ll be a total joy to see the look on their faces when the love hearts reveal themselves.
